OVERVIEW: We are seeking a skilled and experienced Maintenance Worker III to join our facilities maintenance team. This role is vital in ensuring the optimal operation and safety of our manufacturing facilities. The ideal candidate will possess strong mechanical, electrical, communications, and troubleshooting skills, along with leadership experience to liaise and supervise vendors activities effectively. $28.74 an hour – Permanent, Full-time
DUTIES
- Performs preventive and corrective maintenance on manufacturing equipment and facility systems
- Troubleshoots complex mechanical, electrical, and equipment issues using schematics and technical manuals
- Utilizes Computerized Maintenance Management Systems (i.e. Maintenance Care) to track work orders and maintenance history
- Completes repairs throughout the building as observed or reported through Maintenance Care.
- Performs carpentry maintenance such as replacing glides on furniture, removing and replacing door handles and attaching items such as pictures, drapery tracks and baseboards to walls.
- Performs plumbing maintenance such as unblocking waste lines; replacing fixtures such as flush tanks mechanisms and faucets.
- Under supervision, performs electrical maintenance duties such as replacing light switches, electric plugs, extension cords, sockets, receptacles and ballasts; fastens boxes and conduits on surfaces. Cleans greases, oils and replaces filters on motors and replaces tiles; makes signs and notices using materials such as stencils.
- Performs mechanical maintenance on equipment such as wheelchairs, beds, bed alarms, and carts by cleaning, greasing, oiling and replacing broken and worn parts such as a castors and filters; performs engine maintenance such as changing oil, cleaning/replacing spark plugs and checking topping up battery and fluids.
- Touches up painting for small projects or larger projects if painters cannot be scheduled.
- Consults with supervisor or department managers to determine the best course of action for larger projects, repairs, or breakdown of equipment.
- Clears snow from walkways and building entrances while also salting them to ensure safe pathways. This includes after hours snow clearance. Will inform the manager or take the initiative to purchase when more salt is required.
- Assists / liaises with journeyman by performing duties such as cutting materials to specified measurements and drilling and tapping holes.
- Initiates calls to contractors for repairs and acts as liaison to contractors when on site. Assigns work tasks to designated contractors and provides related training and orientation.
- Transports heavy furniture and/or equipment manually and/or using aides such as dollies and carts.
- Provides support for new and existing residents to set up rooms such as hanging pictures, TVs, connecting cable, such as bed/mattress transfers, set up, and troubleshooting.
- Supports room preparation for renovation (toilet removal, patching walls, etc.) as needed.
- Transfers the organics, recycling, and garbage bins from the compactor to the tipping area as per schedule to prevent garbage overflow in basement.
- Monitors accumulation of non-compactor garbage (furniture, etc.) and arranges for pick up by junk removal company. (Maximum once per month.)
- Conducts monthly internal and external building inspections to monitor damage or observed areas of concern.
- Maintains materials and supplies for assigned areas.
- Attends staff in-services and continuing education programs as directed by the employer.
- Performs other related duties as assigned.
REQUIREMENTS
- Grade 10, plus two years’ recent experience or equivalent combination of education, training and experience.
- Proven experience in a manufacturing or facilities maintenance setting
- Electrical experience with the ability to troubleshoot electrical systems effectively
- Mechanical knowledge with hands-on experience in facilities or industrial maintenance
- Proficiency in reading schematics, blueprints, and technical manuals
- Ability to work independently or as part of a team in a fast-paced environment
- Excellent communication skills in English, both written and verbal
- Leadership qualities with the ability to mentor junior staff (e.g. summer students) and manage multiple projects simultaneously in an organized manner.
