Resident Care Aide

JOB TITLE: Resident Care Aide (PC3)
JOB SUMMARY: Assists residents with the activities of daily living, to meet the needs and interests of residents.
Reports to the Care Team Lead or Designated Supervisor
DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES
  1. Directs and assists residents with activities of daily living such as bathing, washing, bowel and bladder care, dressing and caring for teeth, hair, nails and skin.
  2. Assures general cleanliness and safety in residents’ rooms and common areas. Reports any concerns including those involving other departments.
  3. Lifts, transfers, porters and ambulate residents.
  4. Follows individual care plans by feeding, distributing meal trays and nourishments, noting changes in appetites and food preferences.
  5. Under the direction of a nurse, administers enemas and catheter care, apply dressings and topical medication including ointment sand lotions, dispense oral medication, take and record vital signs and obtain routine laboratory specimens.
  6. Observes and reports changes in a resident’s functional and cognitive behaviour to the nurse on duty.
  7. Records in the chart pertinent aspects of the resident’s condition and care provided. Notifies the nurse in charge of any unusual occurrences. Completes and sighs an Incident Report as directed.
  8. Assists with admissions, discharges and transfers of residents by following established procedures.
  9. Assists resident with activities such as exercises and entertainment.
  10. Sorts residents’ personal laundry.
  11. Maintains proper care and identification of resident’s clothing and personal effects.
  12. Reports unsafe or faulty equipment to the designated supervisor.
  13. Performs other related duties as assigned.
Education and Experience
  • Graduation from a recognized Long Term Care Aide Program or an equivalent combination of education, training and experience.
Skills and Abilities
  • Ability to communicate effectively both verbally and in writing.
  • Ability to deal with others effectively.
  • Physical ability to carry out the duties of the position.
  • Ability to organize work.
  • Ability to operate related equipment.
