To help keep our residents safe and ensure all medications are handled properly, MediSystem Pharmacy is introducing a new process for any medications that residents bring from home or receive from another source.
What This Means for Residents & Families
Sometimes the pharmacy cannot supply a specific over‑the‑counter product. When that happens, residents may purchase the item themselves. Before the care home can use it, the medication must be checked, labeled, and safely packaged by the pharmacy.
What You Need to Know
-
- Medications must be new, sealed, in their original packaging, and not expired.
-
- Some items cannot be repackaged, including cannabis products and government‑supplied medications (such as certain renal or cancer treatments).
-
- If the pharmacy already carries the product, they will continue to supply it directly.
-
- The care home will send eligible medications to the pharmacy in a tamper‑proof bag with the resident’s name clearly labeled.
-
- The pharmacy will verify the medication, repackage it if needed, label it, and add it to the resident’s medication record.
Timing
Please allow a few days for the pharmacy to process and return the medication. To avoid delays, care homes are encouraged to send items one week before they are needed.
This updated process helps ensure safer medication handling, accurate labeling, compliance with Residential Care regulations, and consistent, reliable medication administration for every resident.
If you have any questions about this new prescription process, please contact your loved one’s care team at The Broadway Group.
