January 2026
Dear Families and Friends,
We are writing to provide a further update following our previous letters dated October 24 and November 10, 2025, regarding long-term care funding changes and their impact on Broadway Lodge.
Since our last communication, extensive advocacy has taken place across the sector. Associations representing long-term care operators in British Columbia have met directly with provincial ministers. Leadership within The Broadway Group has also continued to raise concerns with Vancouver Coastal Health, the Ministry of Health, and the Seniors Advocate, clearly outlining the gap between current funding levels and the true cost of providing safe, quality care.
At this time, we have not received confirmation of any funding changes or the reinstatement of overtime funding. Advocacy efforts are ongoing, and we remain actively engaged alongside our sector partners.
Operationally, we want to share how Broadway Lodge is managing during this period:
- We have been able to hire additional care and nursing staff and make select position adjustments to support ongoing stability.
- Like many care homes, we continue to experience staffing pressures and occasional periods of working short, which are closely monitored.
- When staffing levels become critically low, we are working with a staffing agency to ensure coverage and maintain resident safety.
- Daily oversight continues to ensure care needs are met and risks are appropriately managed.
We want to reassure families that resident safety, dignity, and quality of care remain our highest priorities. Decisions are made thoughtfully, with clinical leadership closely involved, and with the wellbeing of residents at the center of all planning.
We also continue to work collaboratively across the sector to advocate for appropriate and sustainable funding, including coverage of the full costs of staffing and overtime, so that long-term care homes can continue to deliver the level of care our seniors deserve.
We are grateful for the support many of you have already shown through advocacy and engagement. We will continue to keep families informed and will share further updates should there be any material changes that impact your loved one’s care or daily experience.
Thank you for your trust and understanding as we navigate these challenges together.
Warm regards,
Kathrin McMath, MA, CHE, CPA
Chief Executive Officer
The Broadway Group
